For Sabahan Youth

Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) The Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) is a three-week U.S.-based exchange program for upper secondary school students (ages 15-17) and adult mentors from ASEAN member countries.  The exchange activities will focus on civic education, leadership, diversity, and volunteerism, which will prepare participants to conduct projects at home that serve a community need.  Program activities will be replicable and interactive so the participants learn concrete skills they can use once they return home.  Participants will live with American families for most of the exchange period and will have multiple opportunities to interact with American youth and educators. SEAYLP Exchange Opportunities The U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce the 2020 Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) is now accepting applications from students and adult mentors from Semporna and Tawau ONLY! SEAYLP is a three-week U.S.-based exchange program, focused on leadership and youth development to explore shared challenges faced by the United States and ASEAN member countries for secondary students ages 15-17 years. This program will take place in April 2020 and will include workshops, interactive sessions, simulations, leadership training, and team-building exercises.  Extracurricular activities will round out the program with volunteer service opportunities as well as interactive site visits with relevant organizations in the host communities. The adult participant will have special sessions with their peers designed to help them foster leadership and civic education programs at home. Participants will have homestays with American families and a study tour to another region of the country away from the exchange’s primary location. After returning home, participants are required to implement follow-on projects in their home communities. Eligible candidates must have strong English skills, commit to the follow-on project upon return, and obtain permission from parents/legal guardians of the student applicants
