Report on the Workshop for ‘Revival of Kashmiri Art through Children Project’

Arshid Baba, Project Leader, Revival of Kashmiri Art through Children Project The first Non-residential workshop on Folk Theater for ‘Revival of Kashmiri Art through Children’ Project was held at Shahi Hamadan Educational Institute from 19th to 21st August 2017. The workshop was a part of Revival of Kashmiri Art through Children Project aimed to help the children of the Kashmir valley to vent out through various art forms. In the program 29 children from two schools of District Anantnag (Froebel Public School) and Budgam (Shahi Hamadan Educational Institute) participated. The children displayed enthusiasm and dedication in the three days of the workshop in which they were taught the basics of Band Pather (Kashmiri Folk Theater) like importance of costumes, props, stage, script writing, improvisation techniques etc. On the final day of the workshop a concluding function was held and the participating guides and scouts presented three theatrical performances before a galaxy of dignitaries from Bharat Scouts and Guides namely Mr. Nazir Ahmad Khan (State Chief Commissioner), Mtr. Roma Wani(Vice President), Mtr. Gulshan Ara(State Commissioner-G), Mtr. Hameeda Banu (STC-G), Hameeda Sheikh (Jt. SOC-G), Mr. M. A. Tramboo (SOG-S), Mr. Bashir Ahmad Dar (Office In-charge State Hq), Mr. Sameer Ahmad (Office Assistant State Hq), Mr. Showkat Ahmad (State Hq), teachers and management of the two schools and 50 students of the Shahi Hamadan Educational Institute. Mr. Nazir Ahmad Khan State Chief Commissioner J&KBSG stressed the need of scouting in present times and importance of the projects like Revival of Kashmiri Art thru Children Project to engage, develop personality and life skills in the participating children. Ms. Roma Wani in her addressed stressed the need for development of cooperative learning skills and inter-personal skills among the children by engaging in meaningful projects to learn to live successfully. All the dignitaries present appreciated the efforts of the children and the adult leaders of the project. The participating scouts and guides of the workshop were presented the certificates of participation by the State Chief Commissioner, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Khan. Mr. Baba Aijaz, Chairman, Shahi Hamadan Educational Institute, thanked the guests and J&K SBSG(Jammu and Kashmir Bharat Scouts and Guides) for choosing the students of his school for the workshop and providing the school an opportunity to serve as the venue.
