A 5-day workshop on theatre was held at Froebel Public School Anantnag from 30th December 2017 to 3rd January 2018. This workshop offered new insights and understandings to children of Five different schools of Anantnag-Creative and Advanced Training School, IslamiaHanfia School, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Iqbal Memorial Institute and the host school which included 21students. The Workshop was part of “Kashmiri Art Revival through Children Project” organized by the World scouts, Asia Pacific Bureau of scouting and J & K Bharat Scouts and Guides. The aim of this project is to resuscitate the dying arts of Kashmir and providea platform for students who are interested in Kashmiri art. The project also aims to be cathartic for conflict ridden Kashmiri Children. Junaid Rather was the resource person for this particular theatre workshop. Baba Hanan led the Workshop. The Workshop covered different aspects of acting ranging from movement, voice, props, improvisation and stage knowledge. Students were given creative freedom to improvise and come up with their own stories. Every student participated in the given tasks with great zeal. Junaid Rather also prepared 12 students of the workshop for a grand performance at Government Degree College for WomenAnantnag on 7th January 2018. The program at Government Degree College for Women was held on 7th January 2018. It started with a musical performance by young artists of Kashmir: Nooman, Tajdar, Iqbal and Furqan. The performance was a fusion of the Kashmiri folk music (chhakar)with modern western music (rock). The performers beautifully symphonized Kashmiri instruments Sarang and Rabab with Western instruments, Guitar and drums. The musical performance was followed by the theatrical performance prepared by Junaid Rather. This performance, titled “Lost somewhere”, moved all the audience deeply and left them in tears at the end. The theatrical performance shed light on the prevalent domestic violence against women in Kashmir. The function was blessed with the presence of great Kashmiri personalities; Zahid Mukhtar (Senior TV Producer, Writer, TV host), ZaffarSalati (Gen. Secretary South Kashmir Civil Society), Prof. Dr. G A Hajam (HOD Zoology and Sericulture GDCW Anantnag), Raja Nisar (Actor and Theatre personality), Khaitul-ul-Ahmar (Manager Holding Hands), Dr. Javaid Iqbal Head Department of English, University of Kashmir, South Campus, Anantnag and Humyra Arshid (Principal Froebel Public School). Dignitaries from J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides Srinagar were part of the audience as well: Haroon Malik, Muzaffar Ahmad Trumbo (State Organizing commissioner), Abdul Ahad Shah (Jt. SOC/ DCS Anantnag), Syed Masarat Hussain Andrabi (ASOC—S), Imran Khan (Div. OCS), Bashir Ahmad Dar (Office Inch. SHQ), Ali Mohd. Wani (Jt. STC- S), Shafiqa Akhtar (GC Froebel School Anantnag) and Rameeza Sajad (SM Froebel School.) Everyone present highly appreciated the performance of the Children. They spoke encouraging words for the participants and made speeches, where they praised the work done by the people associated with the “Kashmiri Art Revival through Children Project.” All the guests solemnly promised to provide their full support to the Project and the Scouting movement. They emphasized the importance of both scouting and the art in Kashmir. In his vote of thanks, Arshid Baba, the project leader described the nature and accomplishments of the “Kashmiri Art Revival through Children Project”. His speech ended with a hopeful note for the emerging Kashmiri art.
