Inspired by the Interamerican Leadership Training, Youth Network Scouting Antiano (YNSA) received a recommendation during last year's Youth Forum to organize the first National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Since then, the coordination team of YNSA started working on this. We decided that the the first NYLT would be a 4-day camp. A camp in which the participants will acquire knowledge and new abilities that will complement what they're already learning in their groups and at school. With this in mind, the team chose to hold the camp from April 28th till May 1st with the purpose of inspiring the youth and enriching their pride of being a Scout and their pride of being active citizens in our community. During the camp they got the opportunity to acquire awareness of their role as young people in both Scouting Antiano and in our community. For the NYLT, we had the following objectives: 1. Enrich the young people's knowledge about their organization and the World Scout Movement. 2. Inspire and motivate the young people for them to grow and take on responsibilities in Scouting Antiano and in the community. 3. Develop leadership skills and skills to give feedback and teamwork. 4. Create awareness about the role of young people in Scouting Antiano and in the community. 5. Raise the feeling of commitment to create a better future for the community. Besides participants from Curacao, we also had Scouts from Aruba and St. Maarten participating. With the aim of promoting more networking between these countries and at the same time inspire more youth to take on adult roles and become active citizens in their communities. A total of 24 participants participated at the National Youth Leadership Training. I had the privilege of being the Course Director for this training and we as the planning team are very proud of how the NYLT turned out. A lot of energy and time was put into this for it to be an incredible experience for the participants. For us, it really was successful and the participants really enjoyed the whole program. The feedback we received from the participants was really positive, feedback that will definitely help make the next National Youth Leadership Training a better one. We also received a surprise visit from the Korea Scout Association, which was a really fun moment for the participants. The participants were divided into three teams. Each team had to develop a project that helps make a positive impact in their community and helps create a better world. For the planning of these projects, we had young community leaders who came as guest speakers to talk about, for example the importance of volunteering, the different situations other young people in the community are facing and the Sustainable Development Goals. This also helped promoting Scouts working together with community actors to help create a better world and at the same time show them what young people in their own community are doing. How, even though they are young, they are making a positive impact and that they as Scouts can do the same. I personally hope that more NSOs, not just in the Interamerican Region but around the world, will organize camps like these to give the young members an opportunity to learn more about the World Scout Movement, develop leadership skills and get inspired to take on responsibilities in their NSO and in their communities. Another great thing about this NYLT is that it was organized by youth members. With support from our adults in the organization. This is what Scouting is about. Giving youths the opportunity to do such things and guide them through this process, which will help them grow as persons and give them more confidence to take on leadership roles. We all want to reach Youth Empowerment, but the first thing we have to do is prepare them to take on such roles.
