Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman extends his greetings to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and welcomes participants coming from all over Luzon who will be attending the Centennial Jamboree for Luzon this November 4 to 9 as Marikina City hosts the said event. Working hand-in-hand for the momentous event are the city government of Marikina, Department of Education(DepEd)-Marikina, Marikina’s League of Barangay, and Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Centennial Jamboree-Luzon, as the city prepares to accommodate an estimate of no less than 10,000 scout participants. Prior to engaging in Global Development activities which include modules on green house, peace advocacy, ecosystem, livelihood skills, and the likes, an opening ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Boys Town Complex of Brgy. Fortune before ensuing at Sime Darby area, also of the same barangay. Vice President Jejomar Binay, president of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, is the jamboree’s guest of honor. The venue of the jamboree is expected to be dense with tall grasses, thickets, shrubs, or the likes, to which, according to Mr. Rodrigo Adriano, is intentional. “The venue of the jamboree will have tall grasses or shrubs to begin with. People might get confused as to why the venue appears as such. Participating scouts will be trimming these as the jamboree commences. This is part of the thrill in scouting,” said Adriano. Meanwhile, a pre-centennial jamboree will be held on October 24 to 26 as part of the preparations for the jamboree in November. Some 2,500 scouts from Marikina will be attending the said pre-centennial event. De Guzman is the BSP’s vice chairman for Luzon, and the honorary chairman of the jamboree organizing committee.
