KENYA SCOUTS ENGAGE IN A BEACH CLEAN-UP CHALLENGE

Scouts from Mombasa County joined other organisations in a beach clean up marathon for three consecutive Saturdays in the month of April. The beach clean up activity dubbed 'Bahari Safi Challenge' was organised by Clean Tech Collectors who invited young people of all ages to participate in a fun and engaging campaign aimed at cleaning Shelly, Nyali and Bamburi Beaches while promoting awareness and behaviour change. 125 scouts aged 6 - 26years together with their unit leaders and National Officials took part in the three activities collecting 1549 kilograms of waste containing 990 kilograms of plastic waste. Scouts in the Coastal Region of Kenya continue taking lead in cleaning beaches as well as educating the community on the harmful effects of plastic pollution on marine life and human health.
