Great Start for Scouts of the Award (SWA) Programme in Malaysia
Last week, two SW Discovery Workshops have been organised in two states (Pahang & Kelantan) which participated about 166 pax of Rovers across Malaysia. The workshops which successfully conducted by State SWA Coordinators took place at two different venues in east coast region of Malaysia.
The details of success stories as below:
Pahang SW Discovery Workshop:
Date: 7-9 Feb 2020
Venue: SMK Semambu, Kuantan, Pahang.
Kelantan SW Discovery Workshop:
Date: 13-15 Feb 2020
Venue: Kem Kijang, Kelantan.
The workshops have been comprised with so much informative sessions and fun activities. We have started the session with awesome ice-breaking and fun bonding activities. Then, we exposed them with introduction of #scout4sdg, Better World Framework and details of Scouts of the World Award Programme. In fact, we were suprised that they managed to remember all 17 goals of SGB within short period of time.
'The Global Challenges' was one of the session that successfully raised their determination to do more community projects as soon as possible. Their inspiration later was boosted after a sharing session of great hardwork for WASH Project which presented by previous SWA Achiever.
The next day, the groups need to plan for their exploration in community nearby. The Exploration was a flexible session which expose them directly to community and engage them to explore the problem/potential improvement nearby. Findings of exploration later were presented in video which shared by the group respectively during reflection session.
Brainstorming activities done during 'Pulau Impian/ Island of Hope' session. Each group was given a task to develop an island of their own. They need to plan from a scratch ground into a develop town using their capability as young engineers. At the end, we were suprised by their creativity as well as 'out of box' thinking for the design. Awesome!
As the workshop is the platform to expose the step-by-step for SWA, the trainers took the lead to inform the participants on how to select the good project, objectives, paperwork guidelines, reporting standard and the skill of project management. They also have been briefed about the award criteria and evaluation requirement. Thus, at the end of session, they were fully aware the overall picture of SWA programme and how to achieve that. Well done trainers!
On the last day workshop, the important session was done. It was evaluation session for proposed project or we called 'mock presentation'. Each group need to come out with a proposed project based on their exploration finding and exposure of project management. Later, each proposed project will be evaluated and commented for futher improvement. Overall, the presentation session was good. The feedbacks from the participants showed that their understanding getting better when presenting the proposed project. All the element of each session during workshop were utilised to brainstorm for the project presentation.
Last but no least, the participants getting excited and inspired when their received their SWA passport. Of course, there simple questions by the trainers before receiving the passport. The question to refresh the content of workshop (BWF, SDG, award criteria etc) and get the direct feedback from participants.
Overall, both workshops were successfully conducted. We managed to complete all the workshop content based latest revision provided by SWA National Committee of Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia.
This year, the number of SWA achiver in Malaysia will be increased. I believe we are making a good progress to increase more impactfull project in Malaysia. It's not just for the award, but clearly aim to create a better world!
