Gerakan Pramuka Invited the Pathfinder Club

Gerakan Pramuka (the Indonesia Scout Movement) invited the Pathfinder Club to join as the Community Unit in the Gerakan Pramuka. The invitation was given by two vice chairpersons of Gerakan Pramuka National Headquarters, Editha Rahaded (Vice Chairperson for Youth Program) and Abdul Shobur (Vice Chairperson for Environmental Affairs). They were present at the opening of the 2nd Southern Asia-Pacific Division Pathfinder Camporee on July 12, 2016. The Camporee was held from 12 to 16 July, 2016 at the campsite which is located in the complex of the Adventist University of Indonesia, Parongpong , Bandung Regency, West Java Province. Around 4,500 Pathfinders participated in the camporee. Aside from various regions in Indonesia, there were also representatives from several countries. Including from Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, a number of countries in South Asia, and even from the United States of America. The Pathfinder Club, or simply Pathfinders, is a department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which works specifically with the cultural, social, and religious education of children and adolescents in the age group between 10 and 15 years. Even though now they also have sections for children below 10 years old. The uniform and many aspects of the Pathfinder Club are similar to the Scouting movement. They also had activities mainly in the outdoor as part of character education to the young people. That is why Gerakan Pramuka invited the Pathfinder Club to become one of Gerakan Pramuka’s Community Unit as mentioned in the State Law of Republic of Indonesia No.12 Year 2010 on Gerakan Pramuka, which in Bahasa Indonesia called as “Satuan Komunitas”. Gerakan Pramuka also praised the presence of the Gerakan Pramuka and WOSM flags at the opening ceremony alongside with the Pathfinder Club and Camporee flags which been raised together after the Indonesian National Flag raising ceremony. After the opening ceremony, representatives of Gerakan Pramuka had an opportunity to explain about what is Scouting, especially in Indonesia. Supriyadi and Berthold Sinaulan, two Leader Trainers of Gerakan Pramuka began the exposure. Supriyadi gave some examples of Scout games which is similar to the Pathfinder Club. Then, Berthold Sinaulan used a power point presentation explained about “Scouting and Religion”. Editha Rahaded and Abdul Shobur again invited the Pathfinder Club to join Gerakan Pramuka. They also invited representatives from the Pathfinder Club to participate as the observers at the forthcoming Indonesia National Scout Jamboree which will be held at Cibubur Scout Campsite, from 14 to 21 August, 2016. Representatives of Gerakan Pramuka also have the opportunity to gave a short introduction about the Messengers of Peace (MoP), including the MoP hand signs.
