Diversity and Inclusion Policy Implementation

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION POLICY IMPLEMENTATION – COMMUNITY SERVICE IN ACTION

As part of the implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Policy, the Lesotho Scout Association conducted three impactful community-based initiatives in Semonkong, Ha Mathinya/Ha Jimisi, and Ha Makoae, Quthing, from June 2026. These activities demonstrated the power of Scouting to promote inclusion, community service, youth empowerment, and positive change. In Semonkong, Scouts engaged with herd boys through community outreach and learning. 14 herd boys received gum boots and blankets as part of the community service initiative, while herd boys from different areas were introduced to the Scout Movement. Participating Scouts also received sessions on Diversity & Inclusion, Messengers of Peace, WOSM initiatives, and Safe From Harm, strengthening their understanding of inclusion, peace, safeguarding, and service. In Ha Mathinya/Ha Jimisi, 17 Rover Scouts and 3 project team members worked alongside community members to repair rain-damaged gravel roads. Potholes were filled, worn sections levelled, and gravel compacted, improving access for residents and vehicles. The initiative strengthened community collaboration and provided Scouts with practical experience in teamwork and problem-solving. In Ha Makoae, Quthing, Scouts visited Pulane Children Centre, spending time with vulnerable children and donating jackets and shoes.

The children were also introduced to Scouting, while local Scouts participated in capacity-building sessions covering Youth in NSO, Cyber Security, Youth Programme, Leadership, and Scouting Development. Together, these three initiatives transformed the Diversity & Inclusion Policy from a commitment into practical action—creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and ensuring that every young person has a chance to belong, participate, and grow through Scouting.
