Diversity and Inclusion Policy Implementation
Diversity & Inclusion Policy Implementation | 22 May 2026
The Lesotho Scout Association hosted a meaningful training workshop to officially launch its Diversity and Inclusion Policy — an important step toward creating a scouting movement where every young person feels valued, safe, and included.
The workshop brought together young people, volunteers, and partners committed to strengthening inclusion within scouting programs, especially for disabled youth and vulnerable children. I as Khotso Khalanyane, actively took part in the sessions, discussions, and community engagement activities throughout the event.
The training focused on practical ways to make scouting spaces more accessible, welcoming, and supportive for all young people regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances. Sessions were facilitated by Inclusive Tech World alongside representatives from the Ministry of Social Development.
Inclusive Tech World delivered a powerful and eye-opening session on disability awareness and inclusion, facilitated by:
* Mrs Refiloehape Sesinyi
* Mr Poloko
* Mrs Mpumi
During the session, participants learned that disability is not only about a person’s impairment, but also about the social and environmental barriers that limit participation.
The workshop also explored three key models of disability:
* Medical Model
* Charity Model
* Social Model
The workshop was further strengthened by the presence of Mrs Ts’episo Ts’ots’otso from the Ministry of Social Development – Maseru District. She clearly explained the Ministry’s role and emphasized their readiness to support this initiative.
To conclude the workshop, participants took inclusion beyond the training room and into the community. Scouts went into the streets of Maseru to engage directly with children living on the streets.
The scouts spent time playing games with the children, sharing moments of joy and connection, before later having dinner together at Makoanyane Squared. The activity reminded participants that inclusion is not only about policies and discussions, but also about human connection, dignity, and making every child feel seen and valued.
As the Lesotho Scout Association continues this journey, the commitment remains clear: to build a scouting movement where diversity is present and inclusion is truly felt.
