DIALOGUE TRAINING IN ZIMBABWE

DIALOGUE TRAINING IN ZIMBABWE

The dialogue held on the 18-21 May 2017 was a success. We were explained on what dialogue is and is not. Dialogue was defined as a conversation on common subject between two/more persons with differing views so each can learn from the other in order to be able to change and grow. We were told that discussion, negotiation, debate to mention just but a few is not dialogue. The 7 principles of dialogue were highlighted which included creating safe place, using appropriate language and agreeing that the purpose is learning. As a dialogue facilitator one must know his/her identity markers knowing his/her strengths and weaknesses using the Juari window. The reason that makes a scout different from other dialogue facilitators is that a scout won’t facilitate dialogue only but for a positive change hence creating a better world. Above all a dialogue facilitator is a good listener, has good communication skills and is passionate about it. It was a blessing to attend it and it is my wish that I carry out all the mandates of being a dialogue facilitator.
