COMMEMORATING THE BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF DEVRAJ URS
Twentieth of August 2020 was commemorated marking the One Hundred Seventh birth anniversary of Shri. Devraj Urs, former Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka, India.
Devraj Urs is one of the most renowned political leaders of the state and has held the chief ministerial post for the most number of days in history of the state politics. He despite hailing from a affluent household, joined the political movement with the objective of diminishing social inequalities and propel the country in path of holistic development post independence. He won two consecutive terms as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Hunsur Constituency.
He is accredited with the honour of elevating the marginalised and vulnerable sections of the society through implementation of revolutionary policies despite heavy opposition. Additionally he strived to enhance the aggregate economy of the state by establishing diversified irrigation channels. The redistribution of land to the tiller was a intricate process which saw smooth processing in the state in the view of his constructive leadership style. He abolished slavery of labour which was a predominant problem in the society on the grounds of equality and termination of discrimination in all forms.
Hence, in order to felicitate his astounding personality, the day is celebrated across the state. I was entrusted with the privilege of being a part of the ceremony hosted by the Government of Karnataka with the Chief Minister as the chief guest at Vidhana Soudha. In addition to which, we were allowed to view and take pictures with the former chief minister’s car. The program saw vibrant projection of talent in the form of differentiated cultural programs.
I am grateful for the experience and exposure gained through this stupendous event and it will be cherished for the time to come.
