BRUNEI SCOUTS ORGANISES MESSENGERS OF PEACE INITIATIVES "PEACE RUN"

25 September 2016 - BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN_ In Conjunction with this year’s International Peace Day that is celebrated by millions of people the world over every September 21, members of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) joined forces to heed the call of the programme. With the theme ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace’, the event is organised by United Nations and supported by the World Organisation of Scout Movement (WOSM) through the Messengers of Peace programme. PPNBD also took the initiative to apply the importance of universal peace and security, highlighting various outside world-peace and security-based activities, as well as sharing information with all scout members inside and outside the country. The programme is intended to give awareness and cultivate understanding on the importance of knowledge for today’s generation as well as their role in keeping peace and security on earth. This year, the PPNBD held the Peace Run in conjunction with the International Peace Day 2016 at Menteri Besar Recreational Park in Jalan Menteri Besar. Over 180 scout members – scout commissioners, scout executive officers, scout leaders, cub scout members, junior scouts, venture scouts, rover scouts, and sea scouts – along with their scout families nationwide took part in the run. The event’s guest of honour was the President of PPNBD, Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, who officiated and flagged off the Peace Run. Also present were the two Vice Presidents, Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Ahmad and Pengiran Abdul Wahab bin Pengiran Hassan; Scout Chief Commissioner Haji Badar bin Haji Ali; Scout Deputy Chief Commissioner Haji Ismail bin Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Setia Haji A Hapidz; the Secretary General of PPNBD, Haji Zainuddin bin Haji Jaafar, and Scout Messengers of Peace Coordinator Liyana binti Salleh.
