During late May 2021, around 2,570 houses of Cox's Bazar were damaged and 1.5 million people were directly affected by the storm triggered by cyclone "Yaas" that weakened into a deep depression over India's north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand. Bangladesh Scouts immediately responded to minimize casualties. Naval Rover crews worked with the local administration and helped rescuing the flood-hit villages like Kanai Nagar, Chila, Vidyarbahan and Digraj, alerting the people, taking them to the nearest cyclone shelter and distributing food.
