Bamboo Drinking Straws: Substitutes to Conventional Plastic Drinking Straws

Bamboo Drinking Straws: Substitutes to Conventional Plastic Drinking Straws

Plastic waste has been and increasingly is  one of the top environmental polluntants in Kenya. Sincerely, our country does not have the much needed technology and skill capacity such as industrial recycling which sees most of the plastic waste ending up in land fills and water bodies. So how do we curb this? Plastic waste management starts at household level where one carries out a plastic consumption audit and seeks more sustainable alternatives to reduce their plastic consumption patterns. For example, I realized in a week I consume an average of twelve 2-litre bottles of soda (packed in plastic bottles) and used a new plastic straw every time I served soda. Realized how much impact that causes to our environment? To curb this I started buying 1 litre soda packed in glass bottles and made reusable bamboo straws from bamboo stalks. See how simple decisions impact our environment? Suppose we all contributed to a little sustainable course in our households?
