ATAS-Malaysia Friendship Dinner 2016 with Sri Lanka Scout Association
June 17, 2016, Petaling Jaya: More than 60 Senior Scout Commissioners and Leaders from Malaysia and Sri Lanka were feted at the ATAS-Malaysia Friendship Dinner with Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA).
Scouts Association of Malaysia National Chief Scout Commissioner Major General Professor Dato' Dr. Hj Mohd Zin bin Hj Bidin who is also ATAS-Malaysia director, welcomed Scout Commissioners and Leaders from Sri Lanka, led by Sri Lanka Scout Association President Srinath Goonerathne and International Commissioner & WOSM/ APR Regional Committee Member Janaprith Salinda Fernando. He said both nations have a long tradition of friendship and shared many commonalities. "Let us join hands and explore ways to co-operate in areas of mutual interest, especially in youth development, and foster an example of harmonious cooperation with Scouting at its heart," said Dr. Hj Mohd Zin.
As the event started, the Scouts observed a moment of silence to honour and pay tribute to ATAS-World founder and former ATAS-Malaysia president Eric Khoo Heng Peng who was called home in 2014. Current ATAS-Malaysia President P.S. Maniam said the tribute was fitting and added the Friendship Dinner was the second held this year as ATAS-Malaysia hosted Korea Scout Association earlier this year in January at Melaka. "There are currently 486 ATAS-World members from Malaysia and we think it is timely for us to plan the 4th ATAS-Malaysia Fellowship Gathering this August in Kuala Lumpur."
The event was also graced by Scouts Association of Malaysia (Federal Territory – Kuala Lumpur) Chief Scout State Commissioner Dato’ Dr. Eli bin Hj. Mohd Tahir.
