Arab Safe from Harm capacity building workshop
World Scouting’s priority is to ensure that every child, young person and adult is provided with a safe and supportive environment. World Scouting is committed to support National Scout Organizations (NSOs) and build their capacity in the Safe from Harm area, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement safeguarding and offer a safe Scouting experience to all.
On 6th of April 2025, a Safe from Harm capacity building workshop was held in Cairo, Egypt, for 3 days. The workshop was attended by 7 National Scout Organisations (NSOs), with a total of 9 participants. The participants were from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Morocco, and Egypt.
The consultants delivered a comprehensive overview of Safeguarding Reporting Procedures, with sessions focusing on both the reporting and responding processes. Participants engaged in interactive case studies and group discussions to apply safeguarding procedures in practical contexts and to exchange perspectives and insights.
In addition, the workshop addressed the development and adoption of safeguarding policies, emphasising alignment with international standards and best practices. Participants explored how to design and implement a Safe from Harm risk management plan at both national and local levels. Key topics included the roles and responsibilities of the National Safe from Harm Coordinator in planning, implementation, follow-up, and training activities. The workshop concluded with an open dialogue on common challenges encountered in implementing Safe from Harm policies and procedures, along with practical solutions and strategies to overcome them.
The workshop was hosted by Arab Scout Region Support Center as part of the Safe from Harm services provided to NSOs with the support from World Scout bureau and consultants.
