ANOTHER GREAT ACHIEVEMENT IN SCOUTING AFRICA AND NIGERIA

History was made on the 8th January 2016, exactly 75 years after the death of Lord Baden Powell the Founder and World Chief Scout. On that 8th January HE Chief Olusegun Obasanjo - Former President and GCFR was decorated as Messenger of Peace Ambassador for Award at his Hill Top Resident Abeokuta. Chief Obasanjo called on Nigerians to work collectively so that the nation can record fast progress in its national life. He equally called on all to Be Prepared at all times so that the nation's aspirations could be achieved in line with the vision of the present leadership in the country. The Nigeria Scout Association led by the Chief Commissioner Olori-Omoba Olusoga Sofolahan paid an official visit to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to confirm his appointment as Messenger of Peace Ambassador for Africa. The Chief Commissioner Soga Sofolahan requested Chief Obasanjo to be Champion of Nigeria and Africa Scouting with a view to growing the association membership in line with the World Scout Vision 2023. In his own submission the Asst Chief Commissioner Youth Engagement and National Orientation Apostle Tola Adenekan noted that the visit to Chief Obasanjo coincided with the 75th Memorial Anniversary of the Founder Lord Baden Powell and provided opportunity to reflect on the tenets, ideas, and fundamentals of Scouting. Chief Obasanjo recalled his experience as a member of the Queen's Scout and noted that Scout contributed significantly preparing him for challenges of life. He pledged his commitment to influence government and organized private sector as well as influential individuals to support the Scout Movement. National officers present at the event included the ACC Education Method Prince James Oyelami, ACC Comm and External Relations Dave Awunah, the Chief Executive Commissioner Prince Simple Mohammed and Secretary Africa Scout Youth Committee Solomon Etim as well as NHQ Commissioners and Asst NHQ Commissioners and SSC and SHQ Commissioners of Ogun, Lagos, and Oyo States.
