On this day 56 years ago, the 24 delegates from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines who boarded the United Arab Airlines Flight 869 along with all of the passengers and crew members crashed into the Arabian Sea near India as they were on their way to the 11th World Scout Jamboree in Marathon Greece in 1963. BSP Proclamation No. 293, s. 1988 declares July 28 as the "Boy Scouts of the Philippines Scout Memorial Day" in honor of these brave and selfless scouts who lost their lives in the performance of their scouting duties.
