A three Day painting workshop was held in Bonvivant English School Nawa Kadal, Srinagar, from 5th to 7th December 2017. The workshop was part of the project, “Revival of Kashmiri Art through Children”, supported by World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM), Asia Pacific Region, through Bharat Scouts and Guides. The purpose of the project is to infuse a new life into the dying culture of Kashmir. The participants of the workshop mainly consisted of Scouts and Guides. Students from 7 notable schools of Srinagar were part of this workshop, including, Bonvivant English High School Nawa Kadal, Green Valley Educational Institute, Hat Trick Public School, Vibgyor Educational Institute, International Islamic School, Wisdom Public High School, and DPS Srinagar. Shaheena Parveen, a respectable painter and Art Teacher, assisted by Soha Wani, a hardworking Educator, were the facilitators of the workshop. The theme of the workshop was “Diverse Culture of Kashmir.” Students showed great enthusiasm, creating more than 200 art pieces in 3 days. It was a sheer display of imagination and creativity from the students. The valedictory function was graced by Deputy Controller Civil Defense Srinagar, Miss Nighat Aman (Chief Guest) along with other dignitaries: Rahi Riyaz (Divisional Commander of Civil Defense), Zahoor Ahmad Bhat (Journalist), Abid Bashir (Special Correspondent, Greater Kasshmir), Tariq Mir (President of Media Association), , Aman Zargar (PDSU President), Arshid Baba (Project Leader), and Imran Khan (Leader of the event). Other Scout leaders included, Saleema Parveen (STC), Hamida Banu (ASOC), Masarat Hussain (ASOC), and Showkat Ahmad from SHQ. All the guests appreciated efforts of the children and the adult leaders associated with the project. They made a vow to provide sine qua non for the project and promised to help enthusiastic children who are passionate about the Kashmiri art.
