Strengths Star Showcase

Learning Objectives

•    Encourage self-awareness by identifying and celebrating individual strengths.
•    Promote positive self-esteem and confidence by recognizing personal achievements and abilities.
•    Foster a growth mindset by acknowledging areas for improvement and setting goals for self-improvement.

Instructions

-    Begin by explaining to the participants the concept of strengths and the idea that everyone has unique abilities and talents.
-    Provide each participant with a large paper star template and colourful markers or crayons.
-    Instruct the children to decorate their stars with drawings, symbols, or words that represent their strengths and talents. Encourage creativity and imagination.
-    As they decorate their stars, prompt them to think about activities or skills they excel at, things they enjoy doing, and qualities they admire in themselves.
-    Once the stars are decorated, invite everyone to share their strengths with the group. Encourage them to explain why they chose each strength and how it makes them feel.
-    After sharing their strengths, ask them to reflect on areas where they would like to improve or learn new skills. Encourage them to write down one or two areas for growth on their stars.
-    Display the Strengths Stars in a prominent place where everyone can see them, such as a bulletin board or classroom wall.
-    Celebrate the uniqueness of each child's strengths and affirm their efforts to grow and develop.

Debrief

-    Reflect on the activity by asking questions such as:

  • What did you learn about yourself while creating your Strengths Star?
  • How did it feel to share your strengths with the group?
  • Did you discover any new strengths or talents about yourself?
  • What areas do you want to work on to become even better?
  • How can we support each other in achieving our goals and improving our skills?

-    Make the connection between knowing your strength and your sense of purpose, we all have things we are very good at and things we can work to get better at!
