Positive affirmation cards

Learning Objectives

•    Understand the power of positive self-talk and affirmations.
•    Boost self-esteem and confidence.

Instructions

-    Provide each participant with index cards or construction paper and markers.
-    Explain the concept of positive affirmations and their impact on self-esteem and confidence.
-    Encourage them to write positive affirmations about themselves (e.g., "I am brave," "I am kind," "I am loved") on the cards.
-    Encourage creativity and personalization in their affirmations, allowing them to express themselves authentically.
-    Ask them to display the affirmation cards in a visible place where they can see them every day, such as on their bedroom walls or desks.
-    Remind everyone to read their affirmations aloud to themselves daily, reinforcing positive self-talk and internalizing the affirmations.
-    For 15+ older, ask participants to think about their insecurities and write down the opposite of it. For instance, ‘I’m very confident and good at public speaking’ and then look at it daily. Guide the conversation towards the fact that we all have insecurities, but once we turn them around in our heads, they are easier to manage.

Debrief

-    Gather everyone together after a week of using their affirmation cards.
-    Begin by asking each participant to share one affirmation they wrote and how it made them feel when they read it.
-    Guide the conversation towards the impact of positive affirmations on self-esteem and confidence by asking questions such as:

  • How did reading your affirmations each day make you feel?
  • Did you notice any changes in how you viewed yourself throughout the week?
  • Can you think of a time when your affirmation helped you feel more confident or capable?

-    Use the opportunity to reinforce the importance of positive self-talk and remind them that they have the power to shape their own self-perceptions.
-    Encourage everyone to continue using their affirmation cards beyond the challenge, integrating them into their daily routine as a tool for building self-esteem and resilience.
