Nutrient Treasure Hunt

Learning Objectives

•    Increase knowledge of essential nutrients and their sources.
•    Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through a treasure hunt activity.
•    Promote physical activity and teamwork.

Instructions

-    Create a list of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, fibre, and healthy fats.
-    Nutrients should be found in a set of foods/products brought into the room, they will need to leverage their knowledge of nutrient content in different foods etc. 
-    Divide participants into teams and provide each team with a list of the hidden nutrients.
-    Instruct teams to search for the hidden nutrient cards and collect pictures or cards of each one.
-    Encourage participants to collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve as they navigate the treasure hunt.
-    Once all teams have found the nutrient cards, gather them together to review and discuss the importance of each nutrient for health and well-being.

Debrief

-    Lead a discussion about the treasure hunt experience and the nutrients collected.
-    Prompt participants to reflect on the role of each nutrient in supporting overall health and vitality.
-    Discuss the importance of including a variety of nutrient-rich foods in the diet to meet nutritional needs.
-    Encourage participants to share their favourite foods or recipes that are good sources of the nutrients they found.
-    Emphasise the connection between nutrition and physical health, energy levels, and well-being.
-    Provide resources or recommendations for learning more about essential nutrients and healthy eating.
 

Materials

1.    Journals List of essential nutrients
2.    Pictures or cards representing each nutrient
3.    Treasure hunt area (indoor, outdoor, or virtual)
