Colorful Food Hunt

Learning Objectives

•    Recognize the importance of eating a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables for overall health.
•    Develop awareness of different fruits and vegetables based on their colours.
•    Foster excitement and curiosity about healthy food choices

Instructions

-    Prepare pictures of colourful fruits and vegetables for the scavenger hunt, ensuring a variety of options.
-    Hide the fruits and vegetables around a designated area, making sure they are easily accessible and safe for children to find.
-    Divide participants into small groups and provide them with the scavenger hunt list.
-    Instruct them to search for each fruit and vegetable on the list and collect them in a basket or bag as they find them.
-    Once all the items have been found, gather the children together to discuss the importance of eating a variety of colourful foods for good health.

Debrief

-    Lead a discussion about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables of different colours.
-    Encourage participants to share what they learned during the scavenger hunt, which fruits and vegetables they found, and if they knew all the fruits and vegetables on the list.
-    Use open-ended questions to guide the conversation towards the learning objectives, such as:
•    Why is it important to eat a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables?
•    Can you name some fruits and vegetables you found during the scavenger hunt and their colours?
•    How can you incorporate more colourful fruits and vegetables into your meals and snacks?
-    Reinforce the idea that eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables provides essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for good health.
-    Encourage children to continue exploring and trying new fruits and vegetables to expand their palate and nutrition intake.

Materials

1.    List and pictures of colourful fruits and vegetables for the scavenger hunt. Option: you can try to hide real fun which will make it more fun!
2.    Baskets or bags for collecting fruits and vegetables
3.    Optional: Prizes or rewards (if its real food, the reward can be that they get to enjoy it!) for completing the scavenger hunt
