ZIM-SCOUTS BRING SOLAR ENERGY TO A RURAL SCHOOL.

With about 230 students, sharing 2 laptop computers for ICT lessons, Mutonhodza rural school could not provide enough lessons before the computers run out of battery, and without electricity, it was hard to instantly charge their computers without having to stop the lesson. The school faced difficulties when in need for printing, and one would travel for 8km to the nearest printing station. The school needed lighting for night classes and security .
The project took place in Masvingo Province at Mutonhodza Primary School. After learning about the Challenges faced by this school we worked with the school authorities in approaching the community elders and responsible education authorities who gave us their blessing to move forward. A solution to empower young people in this community was born and a project team was formed to begin research. The research informed the implementation strategy and resource mobilisation project began..

There are still many rural communities in strong need of electricity for simple functions like charging and lighting but they lack both the resources and education about renewable energy, especially how solar energy works. Conducting free solar trainings in rural communities will be a great solution and will improve sustainability to these projects
