Zero Waste -2019 District Level Project / Kalutara District Branch of Sri Lanka Scout Association

Kalutara District Programme of Zero waste national concept 2019.

We are very happy to inform that the above mentioned program was done very well under the guidance of the Sri Lanka scout association and the district commissioner of Kalutara on 03 November 2019 in the area of the urban council of Kalutara.

This important program was organised according to the national Zero waste programme of the Sri Lanka scout association by P. G. M. A. Nuwan Jeewantha MOP district coordinator of Kalutara.

We started this from Kalutara Holy Cross College and our groups were divided into 10 and were sent to 10 areas in the urban council.

It's very happy to mention that the following important persons gave their wonderful support. They are  Kalutara district scout commissioner with his district officials, the mayor of  Kalutara Mr. Amir Nazir, PHI Mr. Asanka Nirmala, invited speaker Mrs. D. Valantina a senior officer of the Central Environment Authority of Kalutara, DC  Kalutara Mr. H. D. Gunathilaka, MOP National Team member ADC Mr. Chamila Indunil, ADC scouting Mr. Wijesekara, ADC administration Mr. Dinu Lokuge, ADC  Kalutara Mrs. Nishanthi Premasiri and scout masters and mistresses.

Scout troops that joined with us from different schools in the district.

  1. Holy Cross College - Kalutara.
  2. K/Vidyalaya National College - Kalutara.
  3. K/Thissa National College - Kalutara
  4. K/Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya.
  5. K/Bandaranayaka College - Payagala.
  6. K/Pothuwila Maha Vidyalaya - Payagala
  7. K/Ariyawansa Maha Vidyalaya - Beruwala
  8. MG/C.W.W. Kannangara Centrel College - Mathugama
  9. MG/ Mihindu Central College - Agalawaththata
  10. MG/ Kaleimagal Tamil School - Mathugama
  11. Katukurunda Air Scout Troop.

97 scouts and girls in scouting, 17 leaders from the above schools joined with us.

The program in brief.

  • Opening ceremony was held at Holy Cross College in Kalutara.
  • A lecture on waste management was done by an officer from the Central environmental authority.
  • Distributed 2500 hand papers for all.
  • Did a great walk with all with different banners which showed about our programme from the school to the urban council in Kalutara.
  • All were given milk packets by the mayor and Kalutara district scout association.
  • We got the permission letters from Kalutara and Mathugama education offices.
  • Scouts and girls in scouting were sent to 10 areas with teachers according to PHI in Kalutara.
  • After coming back from the different areas all were given badges.
  • Kalutara police station provided security services.
  • Vote of thanks was done by Mr. Nuwan Jeewantha MOP District Coordinator.
