Galle district programme of Zero waste 2019 Sri Lanka

We, the scout group of Galle district are immensely happy to report the success of our above mentioned programme which was done hand in hand with the Sri Lanka scout association, the district commissioner  and the district  leaders on 2nd and 3rd of December 2019 in Galle urban council area.

The programme was originally designed with the guidance of the national Zero waste Programme of Sri Lanka scout association by Mrs. Nadeesha Dilhani Jayasekara, MOP district coordinator of Galle. On the first day and the second day the starting point was the district headquarters premises in Galle fort. After having a short assembly we grouped our scouts into 7 groups including parents. Scout leaders and district leaders and with the maps to each area were sent to 7 different routes of Galle urban council.

The first day was a full day for us starting at 8.00 a.m to 2.30 p.m and second day from 1.00 p.m to 5.00 p.m. To end the each day we all gathered to the new park area of the old fort premises. There we had our refreshment and also discussed about the experiences and the challenges that they faced while engaging the activities. We did not forget to sing songs and enjoy the moment before we dismiss.

There were many big hands behind our success of this project namely as Rev. Fr. Bernard Jayasinghe [S. J ], Rev. Fr. Christian [S. J ], the principals of the participants’ shools, the mayor of Galle district Mr. Priyantha Sahabandhu, all the officers of the police Galle, District Commissioner of Galle Col. Ananda Alwis, ADC [cub] Ms. Ambhika Gunasekara, ADC [admin] Mr. Hemal Prasanna Kariyawasam and all the other scout masters and mistresses of the district.

The strength of our Galle district was empowered by the wonderful scouts of the following scouts troops.

  • Air Scout Troop, koggala
  • G/Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya, Dikkumbura
  • G/Siri Sunandha Maha Vidyalaya, Mapalagama
  • G/Siri Niwasa Maha Vidyalaya, Wanduramba
  • G/Mahindha College
  • G/Muslim Ladies College
  • G/Mount Calvary High School
  • G/Prajaphathi  Gothami Girls’ School, Ambalangoda
  • G/Hapugala Maha Vidyalaya

Our force was a consist of 60 scouts and 10 leaders from the above mentioned schools.

Our programme

  • Opening ceremony  was held at Scouting headquarters in Galle
  • District commissioner and the MOP coordinator addressed the gathering and gave common instructions and advice to the scouts before they leave.
  • Distributed the leaflets among the scouts.
  • Grouped the scouts and assigned scout masters to each group
  • Displayed the Galle district map and explained their routes
  • Scouts and teachers were sent to 7 areas according to the routes
  • Gathered to the park, had refreshments and short discussion
  • After having a small entertaining programme, Mr.D.C.K Weerathungha, the scout master of air scout troop Koggala did the vote of thanks and dismissed
