22. Brief description about the project (200 words)
We launched this project in Jaffna City while having the long-term aspect in mind as it involves heavily with change of behavioral patterns in waste disposal. It was to raise public awareness. Preparation of permission letters, applications, human resources and other resources were carefully done. They were grouped and deployed according to program schedules.
We did the workshop for the scout at J/Periyapulam Maha Vidyalayam on 30/10/2019. On the 2nd of November, the people of those areas were introduced some volunteers to show their capabilities and talents in view of waste management. They explained the current and future problems of mounting polythene/plastics through role plays and the process of producing and selling handicrafts using paper waste. This approach ended up with a great success as the participants gave positive feedback.
We conducted another discussion with the government sanitary workers on the 2rd of November. There were 100 workers benefitted in the discussion. We can cite it as another success of this project.
The scouts participated in the project issued leaflets in the households, shops and other entities that came across in the selected location. The PHI, Police and the groups mentioned above were joined hands with us enthusiastically.
Their explanation on methods of disposal of waste and how to make money out of waste was very useful.
We have decided to continue this program throughout Jaffna district. The attempt can surely lead to a remarkable behavioral change in society.

(100 Words)
Since it is our pilot project, identification of location is crucial. The households in the area we have chosen are used to compose pits. Therefore, they gave their full and continuous support. Then, raising awareness on plastic waste disposal and recycling was done systematically. The demonstration we did was very simple and easy to understand.
We did not forget to explain the dangers of unthoughtful plastic littering. We recognized and brought the recyclers towards public who were told recyclers were at their door steps. Advanced vehicle announcement and adequate distribution of leaflets during our project were reasons for our wide outreach.
