YESS - Youth Empowerment Study Session
Youth Involvement is a key strategic priority of WOSM. One of its areas of interest is how young people can be empowered to be autonomous and confident to take their role as active members of society.
This empowerment takes place not only in school but in other contexts where young people interact, such as in family, in Scouting, in the community, and in associations to which they belong to (religious, cultural, sporting, etc)
In support of this key priority, Corpo Nacional de Escutas (the Portuguese Catholic Scout Association) is organising an international event, YESS - Youth Empowerment Study Session, which will take place from 9th to 12th May in Lisbon and Cascais, Portugal.
CNE welcomes social sciences experts, researchers and students, scouts and guides, non-profit institution members and professionals, teachers and educational experts and any individual with special interest in Youth Empowerment.
Throughout 4 days several speakers and experts using different methods and approaches will help us to achieve the goals of the event:
To enhance theoretical background of people working in organizations where youth empowerment is a goal;
To build some bridges between academic world and field work on youth empowerment;
To work on youth empowerment in different areas and approaches;
To promote the exchange of views and ideas, experiences and good practices.
The Study Session will be composed by two parts:
1. Open day Conference with Prof. Brian Christens and Prof. Julie Petrokubi, from Wisconsin-Madison University, in ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon, 9th May, from 09h00 to 17h00;
2. Open-day conference & Residential Seminar – from 9th-12th May, in Lisbon and Cascais.
YESS - Youth Empowerment Study Session will be a unique event, with the opportunity to expand knowledge, to discuss ideas and views, to promote the dialogue between agents, and to share best practices on the topic of youth empowerment.
