The Yellow Rose Project

The Yellow Rose Project is focused on creating much needed awareness about Endometriosis, one of the leading causes of infertility in the world. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women in their reproductive years and has its cases are on the rise in the Maldives. Many women have faced the challenging painful symptoms of Endometriosis without being diagnosed for several years. The symptoms can start as early as a girl’s first period and menopause may not resolve the problem due to the scar tissues or adhesions from the disease. Endometriosis has no permanent cure

The project aims to create a society which is aware of Endometriosis and making the community understand the difficulties the women suffering from this disease go through. An aware community who can reach out with information to those who are experiencing severe symptoms. This project also aims to help women come forward and Encourage women to get proper medical counsel rather than generalizing the symptoms to common menstrual problems.

Leaflets on Endometriosis are distributed online to different target audiences and a social media campaign was initiated on Facebook and Instagram. A panel discussion on the subject area with diffrent experts and sufferers was held in Septemeber and a photography competition was announced afterwards.

This project is run by Rover Crew of First Male' Scout Group, with the expert advice from its specialised NGO - Endometriosis Maldives.
