"Women empowerment"
In my school, students and teachers come from different ethnic group such as Lhotshampa(southern region), Sharchop (eastern region),Nanglops(western region) and Khengpas (from central region). Even societies around us are from different corners of the country with diverse background. About 10 % of the students come from broken family or family problem. One of the problems that existed in school is the girl’s participation in extra-curricular activities like leadership, literature competition, games or sport, etc. They lack courage to open up due to which they failed to take part in activities. Even few of those girls serving as school representatives seem to take part forcefully. Our girls need encouragement and support so that they participate actively in any kind of activities. Girls being harassed by boys; is major issue that we have in our school and there were issues like male teacher not allowing girls to visit toilet during their menstruation period. Even Teachers like me lack knowledge or tend to forget that girls are different and how reproductive health plays important role for them.
Coinciding with International women’s day, coordinated by UNESCO club , marked the day, sensitizing on the ‘Importance of Role of Women, Violence Against Women in our society and How to Combat Violence Against Women’. UNESCO secretary general’s speech was read to the audience by the club member to and reminded how this day is special for the women around the globe and documentary on the importance of women’s day was also shown and convinced audience about care and love from our women. Talking on the understanding of the women, health coordinator, highlighted on the health related issue where society had to accept and know about women. Society tends to mock women, judging physically and in reality women go through series of unseen mental stress. The program was entertained with the skit on ‘violence to women in the society’. Through this informative skit we could convince audience about types of violence such as sexual harassment, bullying, battery, physical violence etc.
Our vice principal madam, shared her experience as mother of three. It was heart touching to hear how she manages her time with children besides her leadership role in the school. “If you educate a man, you educate a member of the family. But if you educate a women, you educate the whole family” was a message to our audience and need to reflect how women is important in a family. Posters and banners were some of the material used to disseminate the information to the audience. One of banner reads
“she is your mother
She is your daughter
She is your sister
She is your wife
She is everything…..But why
It is always women that is
Left behind
STOP VIOLENCE AGAIST WOMEN!!!”
