Water Source Maintenance
Water for Life
Water has been always a problem for Tsenkharla Central School for many years especially during the monsoon season. A downpour today means no water the next day. As always a minimum of three men has to go to the source to make sure that there is a continuous water flow from the tap.
A team comprising YDF, Y-VIA volunteers, other student volunteers and some staff volunteers (about 61 individuals) embarked 12 km on foot journey from school at 6:00 am in the morning for Buyang water source maintenance. Buyang water is the primary water source that school depends on for all purpose. The team carried out cleaning at source which is about 40 minutes uphill climb from the irrigation channel. It takes about three and half hours to reach to the water source from the school.
A wire mesh around the inlet pipe was reinforced to avoid frequent blockage due to leaves and twigs. Further the tank was also cleaned and cleared off from the sediments and debris accumulated at the bottom.
The team spent hours in widening the precarious narrow trail leading to the source which is very risky during the wet season for any unfortunate may slip off the cliff. We also cleared the bush covering the trail.
The trail is said to be infested with poisonous snakes and leeches.
One has to go through the unwelcoming creatures like, snakes slithering into the bush right before your eyes giving you a frightening goosebumps and hungry leeches sucking your blood luxuriously while you're still panting and leaving you only when they swollen enough of your blood.
It has exactly been a week and we already started to experience problems despite our efforts in curbing the issue.
***Unless the relocation of water source the problem may still continue.
