Water Filtration Systems in Honduras

Many people in Honduras lack affordable access to clean water and turn to less expensive and unhealthy forms of hydration that can lead to obesity, kidney stones and intestinal illness.  Sachet water bags are low-cost, but the discarded single-use bags contribute to pollution and can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes that can spread dengue fever.  The project involved the distribution of 75 water filtration systems to 14 villages in northeastern Honduras.  The units were transported to Honduras from the United States. Local volunteers were enlisted to help assemble the units, distribute the filters, and train recipients on their use and maintenance.
