The Walkathon Library Day 4
Morning Session (0700-1200H)
At 0700H, The propents of the project started its third day by roaming around the Municipality of Tinambac through the use of the Filipino way of fast transportation to your destination ---- the “padyak”. Riding this made way of roaming in the municipality and drove straight to Barangay Filarca, the same place where we taught yesterday. This is due to the overwhelming support of the residence to our project.
When we arrived in our destination, we were very much overwhelmed that even before inviting the kids to join our session, they rushed towards us and showed us very wide smile symbolizing that they are having great time with us. Our souls have been fulfilled when even the parents are inviting their children to join us.
We were so happy and felt like floating in the seventh heaven when after having thirteen kids a day before; we now have 59 actively participating kids. Since there is a wide parameter in level of proficiency of the kids, we divided ourselves in work. After a short story telling session, we divided the kids into three groups based on their age and the appropriate lesson that they should take up. Jubille taught kids age ranging from 4 years to 7 years old with all the basic reading skills in Filipino, on the other side Sct. Lexa taught kids age ranging from 8 years old to 10 years old where she let them read English books and test their understanding, next, Sct. Kent, taught basic and a bit complicated mathematics skills in the children, age ranging from 11 to 13.
II. Afternoon. (1300H to 1700H)
After a fruitful morning of teaching 59 actively participating kids, we went to the Mayor’s office to follow up our letter asking for support.
Getting in touched with Honorable Mayor Ruel B. Tuy, we talk about our project especially the event for the night—the campfireand show him our approved proposal. Since he us so satisfied and amazed about our project, he ask us to provide the names of thekids that we are teaching. Then he donated Two thousand pesos (Php. 2000.00) that we utilized in buying foods for the night’sevent.
The rest of the afternoon was utilized in preparing the evening event. We went to the market and spent the financial assistancecoming from the Local Government Unit (LGU) where we bought candies, cupcakes and fruit drinks. The remaining time for the afternoon was utilized in looking for “SONGO” or cut woods for the campfire where we reach Barangay Old Caaluan where Mr. and Mrs. Multo donated their old fences for our camp fire.
III. Evening (1800H-0100H(May 19))
Straight forward from Barangay Old Caaluan, we return to Barangay Salvacion Poblacion to pick up the foods that we prepared
earlier then conquer the road going back to Barangay Filarca to set up our camp fire. We are very fascinated because aside from
all the kids are waiting for us, we also have their parents who wanted to watch us in our campfire.
Since most of the kids haven’t experienced camp fire yet, we made it the best that we could ever do.
The camp fire was started byan invocation from Sct. Lexa Natalie C. Juntado, and the lighting of the bonfire was led by JubilleMarlourd D.Lucena and Sct. Kent
Bryan D. Lontok.
We then taught the kids to sing some campfire songs like “campfire’s burning” and “AudlangSyne”. Then after singing those songs, we had a music jam when Mr. Lucena with his guitar sang his rendition of “All of me” and everyone starts singing and jamming with the song. We also offer them story telling where all of us shared our own inspiring stories especially on how we could show our love to our parents and make them feel important before it’s too late. With a lot of parents listening, we believed that they
realized something from what we taught them.
At exactly 1953H, our campfire ceremony is over and we bid our good bye to the kids and their parents because the next day will be a different route. Leaving Barangay Filarca at 2000H, we went to Barangay Salvacion Poblacion to fix our books and other teaching materials and had our meeting. After the meeting, we then started working with the publication for this SWA voluntary service. We continue making articles and layouts for the publication.
At 0100H of May 19, 2017, we decided to sleep and continue our work after the rest.
