In 2017 the project was further enhanced when the diesel pump was replaced with solar power. The community have taken ownership of the project. The trees are flourishing and as a result soil quality is improving. Cash crops are being grown between the rows of trees making use of the existing irrigation and utilising the available area. This has further improved the diet of the local community.

The Hatters Explorer Scout Unit will be returning to Namibia this year to continue their project for the San Bush people in the Tsintsabis area. The San people have suffered much persecution from early colonisation right through to the current day having been pushed off their lands. The community at Tsintsabis have almost nothing with nearly total unemployment and little hope. In 2011 The Hatters inaugurated an orange tree plantation. A diesel pump was installed on a government bore hole, land cleared and fenced, irrigation put in and trees planted. On our return this year we will continue with this project increasing the irrigation and planting more trees. As we have 60 people going we will also look to start a secondary project for the future and our continuing support for these people.
