Trees for the world - Armenia
National Scout Movement of Armenia
"HASK" NGO - Yerevan Chapter
EVERY PERSON WHO DOES A GOOD DEED IS A MESSENGER OF PEACE!
The idea was to have one tree for one scout and the results were outstanding. With the help of the mayor of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, we actually accomplished in getting April 11th, to be a citywide planting a tree day. I won’t be able to get into much details as to how many areas trees were planted, I’d rather introduce you with the picture of the two main areas where the trees were planted.
The first area where we planted trees is called “Yerablur” which is a military cemetery located on a hilltop in the outskirts of the city. With the participation of over 800 volunteers there were over 1600 trees planted here, that’s 2 trees per person.
The second are is called “Tsitsernakaberd” the Armenian Genocide memorial complex where over 300 volunteers including the Mayor of Yerevan and ambassadors of many embassies located in Yerevan. Around 600 trees were planted in the surround of the memorial.
Overall there were more than 1400 volunteers who planted over 3000 trees throughout the city.
The project introduced by World Organization of Scout Movement and it’s Messengers of Peace program has it’s huge impact in Armenia for the past 3 years. The above story says it all.
Here is small teaser video showing the tree planting, which is just the beginning of what’s coming up. A full video will be released after all of our chapters are done with their tree planting events throughout the country. Stay tuned…
