                "TREE  PLANTATION"

Treeas have been the companions and benefactors of a man since time immemorial. He ate thei roots, leaves and fruits. He also ate some flowers. He made his hoke with the help of twings, branches and leaves. As he grew in number, more and more dependence on trees came into being. He not only took care of the trees for his food, clothes and dwelling but also planted new trees to meet the need of the growing population. Thus from time immemorial trees have been man's mates.

Abudance of trees helps the afforestation of a country. It ensures greater rainfall which more food crop in water scarciry areas. For an agricultural country like ours the importance of trees and forests can hardly be exaggerated. Forests containing trees increase fertility of the soil on which the stand. Trees provide shelter not only to men but also to birds and beasts.

Timber from the trees are used in construcrion and for making furniture and many other articles of daily use. It is also used for making newsprint and other kinds of paper. Palm trees, rubber trees, cincona tres and soke other kinds provide raw material for many types of industries. Their roots, barks, leaves and their fruits are also very useful.

Trees attract clouds for rain. Where there are trees  the atmosphere remains cool and so the clouds are cooled down and they begin to rain. Trees are useful for checking soil erosion. Rain water falls and washes away the fertile layer of the soil. But the thickness of trees and plants causes the soil in the flowing water to stay by their trunks and roots. The speed of flow is slowed down. So soil erosion is checked. As a result fertility of the soil is maintained.

Trees breath out oxygen which is essential for all the animal lives including man. Thwy add to the beauty of the nature. Their  green leaves present a beautiful sight. Anplace without trees looks dull and lifeless. Plantation of trees is essential for checking the expansion of desert.

"A growing tree is a symbol of a progresing nation" said Pandit Nehru who was a great lover of trees. He desired us to plant two trees in place of one felled tree for our benefit and for the benefit of the future generation. Forests full of trees are natural sanctuaries for wild animas, rear birds and many kinds of jungle life. If trees are ruthlessly cut down such lives would not be able to thrive.

Realising the importance of trees and for making the people concious about the importance of trees,Government of India has been organising Vana Mohasatava for a week in the beginning of the rainy season since 1950. The forest department organises this. The main aim of Vana Mohastava is plantation of new trees. Each man is inspired to plant trees and take care of them atleast during the Vana Mohastava week. The Prime Minister of India, the avice President of India and other representatives of people, Governors, Chief Ministers and other Ministers take part in it.

All should realise the importance ofbthe trees and try to increase their number.
