'Trash Festival' to build Peace

Waste management has become a global issue. At the same time youth unemployment rate is also increasing daily. So, to solve both this issue at the same time, I planned to conduct 'Trash Festival.' And International Peace Day was the perfect day for me to announce about the Trash Festival. I am sure reducing waste in the community and an idea to create your own career would build peace to all the people in the community and specially the children.
The project was implemented in Khoyar Primary School, Gomdar, Samdrup Jongkhar. Announcement to conduct 'Trash Festival' was done on 21st September 2022 coinciding with the International Peace Day. Provided 1 week to prepare for the trash festival, where the teachers and students engaged in making models and gadgets using trash available in the community. on 28th September 2022, Trash Festival was conducted, and International Peace Day was officially concluded in our school.
Directly the project benefitted around 155 people but if we look at the future impact, the project will benefit to almost all the people in the community. Because the way trash can be used in an innovative way can make them come up with different ideas to run business or make their own career.
From this project I learnt that the trash can be used in so many ways. It can help children to develop creative skills and leadership skills. The project also helps us to impart value of managing waste to the people. Now, for the next project I am planning to use trash to make dresses or costumes which we can use during dance or role play. I call it as 'Trashion Show' derived from Fashion show. This is how I am making peace in the community by managing waste in different innovative ideas.
