Tools for Conflict Resolution

Our Scouting group, Venture Crew 445, hosted an “Ethics in Action” debate with the focus for learning “conflict resolution” techniques.  These methods and processes involved in facilitating the peaceful ending of conflict that can occur in our everyday lives.  Our Crew members attempt to resolve group conflicts by actively communicating information about their conflicting motives or ideologies to the rest of the group (e.g., intentions; reasons for holding certain beliefs), and then engaged in collective negotiation.  Ultimately, a wide range of methods and procedures for addressing conflict exist, including but not limited to, negotiation, mediation, diplomacy, and creative peace building.  We practiced effective listening and communication skills to arrive to peaceful outcomes during numerous scenarios.  This not only helps our group interact with each other, but fosters a new skill set for each member to utilize in their interactions with others family members, peers, and community.
