Ticket to Life- Kenya
Over the years KSA has been implementing an ESP programme (Extension Scouting Programme) to involve vulnerable children and youths in orphanages, children's homes, special needs schools/institutions for the blind, deaf, physical and intellectually challenged and autistic/cerebral palsy in Scouting. Today the need is still felt to continue with the programme since the same categories of vulnerable children and youth exist in our society. Thus the motivation to continue with the project.
We are targeting children and young people in the following vulnerable categories
i. Children and Youth Affected by HIV
ii. Children and Youth living with disabilities
iii. Orphan children and youth in the care of the public or private authority
iv. Children in juvenile facilities/youth detention centres.
The geographic coverage for phase 1 of this project is within 8 counties in the Republic of Kenya.
Conduct 9 mentorship sessions in each of the units Identified.
These sessions included life skills, the discovery of self-worth and self-esteem, character development, self-exploration and team spirit.
200 Scouts acquired knowledge and skills in scouting and life skills from Mentorship done in the 9 units
Conducted 3 days of training to 25 adults on Specialized Rights-Based on Fundamental Principles of Scouting; Introduction to Disability;
The scope of the project was wider than expected and going forward we need to reach out to more scouts leaving with disabilities and those who are underprivileged.
