TCSJ Stop Hunger Now 2017
Rotaract Club of Taylor’s College Subang Jaya has decided to promote awareness on sharing a meal through various fundraising and awareness project which are closely related to the theme. We would like to promote the ‘Share a Meal’ spirit among Taylor’s students and staffs as well as public through Coin A Meal project, Food Combo Video Challenge and Project Kongsi (Café Collaboration). We, as students often neglect our role and commitment in the community to contribute, improve and overcome food wastage and world hunger.
Our hope for the event is for the public to realize that although in small efforts, we can achieve significant results as we have a cohesive effort to make a difference. We work to install the mind set amongst the students that they can lend a hand in uprooting food wastage and world hunger through a different concept, in methods they may have not think can contribute to overcoming the issue.
Our aspiration for this event is to reach a total of 60 000 meals for our Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event. Our event is a gateway for the public to contribute in wiping out world hunger through the funds we collect. At the same time, we hope that people would come to realise that the small amount of funds donated could go a long way in helping to feed the underprivileged. It is the responsibility of each and every individual in an effort to eradicate hunger and food wastage.
Mission:
• To promote self-awareness to students and public on our responsibility as an individual to donate and share our food portion to those in need by donating the extras we have.
• To remind students the importance of appreciating their food by finishing their food
• To provide aid towards the Sahabat Orang Asli (SOA) Perak, our beneficiary.
• To nurture committees and volunteers with growth opportunities in soft skills.
• To provide a platform for students of Taylor’s College and the public to give back to the society
Vision:
• To remind public that everyone has the right to get food as it is a basic necessity for all human beings and it should be equally distributed to all humankinds.
• To enable students to acknowledge that what may seem to be a norm to them may be a luxury to the underprivileged ( eg : coins may be mere and insignificant to some people but may contribute to buying a meal for the needy )
Beneficiary:
Sahabat Orang Asli (SOA) Perak
The Sahabat Orang Asli (SOA), a fully registered NGO based in Ipoh, conducts flood relief for the local indigenous communities in Grik forest of Northern Perak, including Tapah and Bidor. They provide aid in terms of farming, education, medical services, solar power supply, building laboratories and water filters for the Orang Asli community, which are largely made up of children, especially in Grik - which is one of the most neglected and poorest areas in Perak. They have been suffering from severe malnutrition and loss of livelihood. Any events of flood, especially in the monsoon months will worsen the situation.
The project team and volunteers have reached out to communities in Kg Sekam in Tapah, Kg Chang in Bidor, and Kg Air Bah Lawin, Kg Sg Karah and Kg Sg Lawin Selatan in Grik. With the help of meal packs from Stop Hunger Now, SOA has been able to provide nutritious food to take care of the children’s daily needs.
