Sustainability Through Design Thinking

The Scouts were motivated by the opportunity to make a real, positive impact on their communities and the environment. Understanding how responsible food choices, green spaces, and sustainable practices benefit both people and the planet inspired them to take action. They were driven by the chance to apply their skills, see immediate results from their efforts, and contribute to lasting environmental and social change.

The Scouts executed the project through a one-day, hands-on session that applied three design thinking activities simultaneously. They empathized with their communities and the environment, defined challenges in responsible food production, conservation, and awareness, and ideated and prototyped solutions by planting vegetables, creating green spaces, and engaging peers—all done at the same time. They then implemented their learning in real time, making the day highly productive and impactful.

The Scouts learned how responsible food choices, green spaces, and sustainable practices positively impact the environment and their communities. They gained practical skills in vegetable gardening, resource management, and community engagement, while also understanding how to apply design thinking to solve real-world challenges and create lasting, meaningful change.
