Supporting our Community (Perth, WA)

As a Buddha's Light Scout group, we wanted to engage with our community and do good for the community. This fits in well with the Messenger of Peace initiative which we took part in.
Our group's project were multi-fold. Instead of a single project for a single community, we constantly contributed to our community from the start of the year to the end. We began with Clean Up Australia Day where we cleaned up a nearby park. We then provided care packs to our Veteran Community; followed by a Tree Planting Day in Noranda WA's Lightning Park where we planted over a 1000 seedlings. Our final contribution was packing 42 Christmas Bags for the Perth Homeless Support Group.
For the Perth Homeless Group, at least 42 recipients were provided the pack. For our veteran's it was approximately 25 recipients. In addition, the work completed cleaning up rubbish and planting seedlings in parks benefits the general public who uses it. This is hard to estimate the true figure but a 100 in total is a very true and conservative estimate.
We learnt that organising teams and selecting activities are important as they motivate Scouts to achieve the target.
