Strengthening the Youth and Management Capacity for Ghana Scout Association

Strengthening Youth and Management Capacity for Ghana Scout Association project was a project which drew local scouts as well as scout from the African sub region.The project was in two phases.Phase one was,"Youth Involvement in Governance", and Phase Two,"GSAT Work Shop". PHASE ONE-YOUTH INVOLVEMENT IN GOVERNANCE This was done under a three-day camp at the Afua Sutherland Park commencing on the 9th March to 12 March 2016.35 youths participated to this camp.15 participants drawn from Ghana Youth Advisors,10 participants from the West Africa NSOs and 5 Youth Advisors from other NSOs. Participants were taken through plenary discussion on how youths can sustain their involvement in governance considering their various cultural background.Participants also shared their experience from their NSOs about their involvement in governance.In patrols,they made various presentations on how they can effectively get involve in their NSOs. Since the project brought together scout across the continent,a strong youth network was built.The engagement framework developed also gave a sound understanding of youth involvement in governance.The project also enriched scouts with leadership skills to help their various NGOs.Scouts considering their various cultural backgrounds identified the limits to which they can go to foster and maintain peace in their communities. PHASE TWO- GSAT(GLOBAL SUPPORT ASSESSMENT TOOLS) WORKSHOP This Phase brought 30 key leaders of the Ghana Scout Association.It was also a three-day camp which started from Friday 26th May to 29th May 2016.Participants were taken through the general over view of GSAT.The main area s of focus were WOSM vision 2023 and WOSM Strategic plan.Participants were also introduced to the current NSO structure of governance. Participants mapped out the strength and challenges through group discussion and team work. They analyzed the current capacity in Youth Programme and Adults in Scouting through group discussion and presentation.Focusing on achieving the full aim of the training, participants were taken through the GSAT cycle, Objectives, dimensions, scoring and certification. All the ten (10) dimensions were discussed extensively through presentations and group discussion.They also discussed the Non Major Conformity (NMC) in plenary. From the GSAT Workshop , a road map of the third party assessment was developed. The workshop also reduced manageial conflict between the regions and the national headquarters. Participants realized the importance to implement the 10 dimensions of GSAT especially the non major conformity.
