Sock for Children in Afghanistan
The Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 122 in Orr, Minnesota (USA) was sent to Afghanistan with the Army Reserve. He wrote to us that the children in Afghanistan were running around without any shoes or socks, even in the cold winter months. Our Cubmaster had already coordinated with an elementary school in California to collect and ship shoes to be given out to the Afghan kids, but no one had agreed to collect and send socks.
We decided as a Cub scout Pack to collect socks from the community. Our goal was to collect 300 pairs of sock (one pair to go with each pair of shoes that our Cubmaster had received from California). By the time we were done, we had collected 500 pairs of socks. We boxed them up and sent them to our Cubmaster.
He coordinated the distribution of the shoes and socks to children in a village outside of Kandahar, Afghanistan in July, 2007.
