Small Champions Big Nature! Small Acts Big Impact
The 1st Ballito Troop participated in a #LitterLess Challenge, which is part of the national challenge, “Champions for Nature!” The main focus of this challenge was to cleanup our beaches in our town.
The Project was executed at Salt Rock and Warren Beach, which is two of the main tourist beaches for the coastal holiday town of Ballito in the KZN province of South Africa. The Scouts and Cubs, were individually challenged to do a cleanup on their own time, and submit some pictures. There was also a corporate beach cleanup, and the Akela arrange a talk for the troop, with the local lifeguard team, on the topic of water and beach safety.
Cleaner beaches. Impacted all the people visiting the beach. Water safety. Impacted the Troop, plus the secondary impact that will have. The community benefitted, as tourism is the single biggest economic driver for Ballito.
Learning. There will always be more litter on the next dune to clean up. To make it better. Maybe look at a preventative project next time that will have a longer lasting impact.
