Seas the Day 2019

INTRODUCTION

‘Seas The Day’ is an event organised by Faculty of Science Student Body (FOSSB) and Badan Pergerakan Mahasiswa/i Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (BPM FASS). The event is also a collaboration between Messenger of Peace (MoP) and student bodies of Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

This event is in conjunction with the 5th Edition of Day of Action and the event will be focusing on the initiative of beach restoration and planting trees.

The event was carried out on the 19th December 2019 and the execution of activity was at Pantai Tungku. The targeted participants were opened to the public.

The whole event seeks to raise awareness of the public on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the coastal area. Furthermore, through the event, the public, including the younger and older generation, especially the youth are hoped to be more involved in volunteerism and additionally, members of the two student bodies are wished to strengthen their bonds and foster teamwork skills in the collaboration.

 

OUTCOME OF EVENT

There were 127 volunteers who joined the event though the expected number of participation is 60 people. The volunteers mostly consist of young adults aged from 14 to 26 years old. Where the majority of volunteers was mostly secondary school students and those who joined to fill in their free time of school holiday.

Around 160 kg of rubbish collected from both areas of coast.

The coastal cleanup and tree planting both help the world towards a better community and better surrounding.
