Scouts Sow Change: Reap Impact
The project was inspired by the need to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture among young people. Scouts saw an opportunity to protect the environment, grow food, and empower communities while demonstrating that youth-led action can make a real, positive impact.
The project was carried out through training and hands-on farming. Scouts planted on 1.5 acres and tended maize, groundnuts, planted 250 mango tree, 150 cashew nuts and 1200 ornamental trees monitored growth, and managed challenges like irregular rainfall. Community leaders and the Forestry Commission of Kintampo provided guidance and support. Awards were given to Scouts who completed the challenge, and a citation was presented to the Forestry Commission for their collaboration.
We learned that teamwork, dedication, and community support are key to successful environmental and agricultural projects. The Scouts discovered the importance of planning, perseverance, and adapting to challenges like irregular rainfall. Most importantly, small, consistent efforts can create meaningful impact and inspire others.
