Scouts in Service to Mother Earth (Whole School)

As a School Scout Coordinator, I was motivated by the desire to create a cleaner, healthier, and more welcoming school environment. Cleaning campaign was around 5 hours. Recognising that caring for our surroundings is a shared responsibility, I led my Scouts in collective efforts to protect Mother Earth and promote environmental awareness. This initiative supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

1. Permission: Obtained approval from the school administration to conduct a mass cleaning programme.

2. Mobilisation: Organised Scout Leaders, Youth Leaders, advance team members, and Scouts to

  participate in the initiative.

3. Task Allocation: Assigned Scout Leaders to different classes and allocated specific cleaning areas tasks, and materials.

4. Cleaning Activities: On 24 September 2025, conducted a mass cleaning programme across the school campus and nearby roads, covering:

  • Upper gate to Anim Dratsang gate and the roundabout.

  • Lower gate to the Census area.

  • Twin Tower Hotel to the upper road.

5. Waste Management: Segregated the collected waste, set aside reusable items, and sent unusable waste to the landfill for proper disposal.

The project created a cleaner, healthier, and more welcoming school environment. It promoted proper waste segregation and environmental awareness. Scouts developed teamwork, discipline, and a sense of responsibility. It inspired everyone to care for Mother Earth and keep their surroundings clean.

This project taught me that teamwork and responsibility are essential for maintaining a clean environment. Small efforts can create a meaningful impact when everyone works together. It also made me more mindful of proper waste disposal and strengthened my sense of responsibility towards our surroundings.

As Robert Baden-Powell wisely said:

“Try and leave this world a little better than you found it.”
