Scouts' Recycle Bin

Students in National University of Malaysia consumes a lot of plastic through out their day as most of food and beverages are packed in plastic. Whenever I walked past the garbage bin, plastic container and water bottles stacked and sometimes scattered on the floor as there are too much garbage in the garbage bin which causes the space to be very limited. I often thought this is unhealthy to the environment. This inspires me to conduct a project which will be a better option for the world.

This project were executed in three residential college of National University of Malaysia which are Keris Mas, Ibrahim Yaakub and Ungku Omar. On the first day of project, my team and I created 9 nature friendly recycle bin from used boxes and cupboard creatively. QR code were made for the participants to register themselves and some extra information and even quizzes were provided as well through this QR code. Then, we place all the recycle bin and QR code at each residential college.

After a week, we dropped all the collected recycle items at a recycle center in our university. The amount of recycle items collected were enormous. It is safe to assume that this project is successful as the objectives were achieved. I noticed after this program was conducted, some of my friends aware about the existence of recycle center in our campus and no longer dispose items that has potential to be recycled or reused.

Before this project, I used to collect plastic bags which were used o carry groceries, bought items and many more as they are unhealthy to the environment. However, I no longer think this is a great solution as most of my drawers end up filled with plastic bags. After conducting this project, I realized that not all item has potential to be recycled. I determined to reduce the usage of items that cannot be recycled and try my best to collect all recyclable items for a better world.
